Design, installation, and maintenance of commercial and domestic fire alarm systems across Manchester.

Fire Alarm Installation in Manchester

A reliable fire detection and alarm system is essential for the safety, and can potentially save the life of the occupants, and protect your property. JD Electric 2013 LTD designs and installs fire alarm systems for residential and commercial properties across Manchester and Greater Manchester, from simple domestic smoke and heat sensors to fully addressable commercial systems.

All our fire alarm installations are designed, installed and certified to the current version of Approved Document Part B, and BS 5839, the British Standard for fire detection and alarm systems. We assess your property's layout, occupancy, and fire risk assessment where available, to specify the most appropriate fire alarm system, whether that is a simple Grade D interlinked smoke and heat sensors for a domestic property, or a large Grade A system for a commercial and large HMO premises.

For landlords and HMO operators, a correctly specified and installed fire alarm system is a legal requirement. We work closely with landlords and property managers to ensure their properties meet current fire safety legislation and licensing requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of fire alarm system do I need for my property?

The type of system required depends on the property type, size, occupancy, and fire risk assessment. Domestic properties typically require a Grade D, category LD2 interlinked system. Commercial properties require a system designed to BS 5839 Part 1, usually Grade A, determined by a fire risk assessment. Small HMO properties usually require a Grade D1, category LD1 fire alarm system. Larger HMOs or HMO properties of three or more storeys require a Grade A, category LD1 fire alarm system.

Are interlinked CO and smoke alarms a legal requirement for landlords?

Yes. The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Amendment) Regulations 2022 require landlords in England to install interlinked smoke alarm sensors on every escape route, high risk rooms and most occupied rooms, and a Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm sensor in every room with a fixed combustion appliance. HMO licensing conditions typically require additional smoke alarm sensors in every bedroom.

How often should a fire alarm system be serviced?

BS 5839 recommends that commercial fire alarm systems are serviced at least twice a year by a competent person. Domestic interlinked systems should be tested weekly by the occupant and inspected periodically. We offer maintenance contracts for individuals, landlords and commercial clients.

Can you upgrade an existing fire alarm system?

Yes, we can assess your existing system and carry out the necessary upgrades or extensions as required, whether that involves adding additional fire alarm sensors, upgrading the panel, or replacing an outdated fire alarm system entirely.
