Rewiring Services for Homes and Businesses in Manchester
Old or deteriorating wiring is one of the leading causes of house fires in the UK. If your property has not been rewired in the last 25 to 30 years, or if you are experiencing recurring electrical faults, flickering lights, or tripping circuits, it may be time for a rewire. JD Electric 2013 LTD carries out full and partial rewires for domestic and commercial properties across Manchester and Greater Manchester.
Our electricians work methodically and with as little disruption as possible, protecting your home and belongings throughout the process. We replace all outdated cables, sockets, switches, and accessories, and fit a new consumer unit with modern RCBOs and surge protection devices (SPDs) to meet the current edition of BS 7671.
On completion, we carry out a full inspection and test of the installation and issue an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC). As a NICEIC-registered contractor, we self-certify the work with Building Control on your behalf.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my property needs rewiring?
Signs that a rewire may be needed include rubber or fabric-insulated cables, round-pin sockets, a fuse box with rewirable fuses, persistent electrical faults, or an EICR that has returned an unsatisfactory result. Properties over 25 to 30 years old that have not been rewired should be inspected.
How long does a full rewire take?
A full rewire of an average three-bedroom house typically takes 2 to 3 weeks depending on your requirements. Usually the rewiring consists of 2 weeks first fix to install all new cables, back boxes, and consumer unit, and 1 week second fix after the plasterers and painters complete their work — testing and commissioning the installation. Larger properties or those with complex requirements may take longer. We will give you a clear programme and fixed price before work begins.
Do I need to move out during a rewire?
For a full rewire, it is usually more practical to vacate the property, as the work involves lifting floorboards and chasing walls throughout. For a partial rewire, it is often possible to remain in the property. Bear in mind that during the rewiring there will be a significant amount of dust and debris coming off the walls and ceilings, which can make living in the property very uncomfortable. We will advise you based on the scope of work.
Will the rewire cause a lot of damage to my walls and floors?
If you want a neat and tidy finish after the rewiring is completed, some making-good is inevitable — you will need to make good or even plaster the walls and ceilings. We will work as neatly as possible and use techniques to minimise damage. If you want to avoid extensive plastering and painting, you might prefer to have the property rewired using surface-mounted conduits or trunking. We can discuss all available options during the quotation and design stage.
